Abstract:
Thalassaemia is a common disease in our country. It may be associated with other heamoglobinopathies e.g. HB.S, HB.0 and HB.E diseases. HB.E exists where thalassaemia is prevalent. Many cases of thalassaemia, major or minor, have been reported in the country but only two families of thalassaemia and HB.E combination are reported. One of the patient was in heart failure, he was administered frusemide along with blood transfusion. He was also given general supportive treatment in the form of vitamins and good nourishing diet. The child improved and was discharged with HB 10.5 gms%.
