Abstract:
An outbreak of ornithosis in fowls appeared in a poultry farm at Lahore during the year 1965-66. A total of 419 fowls were affected out of which 344 died. Diagnosis of the disease was established by the demonstration of small coccus-like elementary bodies in organ smears especially of the liver and spleen. Treatment of 225 fowls was carried out with oxytetracycline hydrochloride (Terramycin) under controlled conditions but only 75 fowls recovered completely. Mass scale treatment of incontact fowls with Terramycin hydrochloride (TM-5) in the feed gave inconsistent results.
