Abstract:
Metastasis free period (MFP) in 136 cases of carcinoma breast was analyzed after being treated with surgery followed by adjuvant therapy. Patients with different duration of metastasis free period were analyzed separately in relation with menopausal status, stage at presentation, nodal status, histopathological grade and receptor status of tumor in order to find out sub-sets of patients at higher risk of developing metastasis after they have completed multi-modality treatment. Overall mean MFP was 2.52 years. Majority of patients (69.1%), who developed metastasis within three years of post-treatment period were those who came with late stage at initial presentation. It was found that patients with shorter duration of MFP had higher percentage of axillary node positive for metastasis.
