Abstract:
The Universal Goniometer consists of two parts, a dial and a clip that are connected by inserting the rod in the hole. Between the clip and the dial are several joints that allow the dial to be rotated so that it lies in either the saggital or transverse planes of the patient or therapist. The dial measures up to 180 degrees in both directions in 5 degree increments and has a pointer attached to the centre. At one end of the pointer is a weight that renders it sensitive to gravity thus the other end of the pointer always points upward. The dial and the pointer move independently, and by rotating the dial it may be set at zero in relationship to the pointer. The clip may be attached to the patient or the therapist. The instrument can be used to measure range of motion of practically all of the major joints of the body. The joints between the dial and the clip are made of nylon and aluminium.
