Abstract:
A manometric method for measuring gas exchange of detached wheat leaves in comparative photosynthesis studies of wheat cultivars is described. Results demonstrated that the use of Warburg`s buffers allowed the rate of photosynthesis to be determined by this technique. Coe concentrations of 0.022 percent volume (calculated) and light intensities of 1.47 Klux were photosynthesis limiting, whereas, 0.204 percent volume CO2 concentration and 7.40 Klux light intensity was suitable for detecting genotypic differences. Semidwarf wheats `AU 49` and `Mexipak 65` had higher apparent photosynthetic rates as compared to the tall types `C 271` and `Koga II`.
