Abstract:
One hundred and sixteen patients of .diarrhoea with or without blood and mucus were studied. Investigations comprised of sigmoidoscopy, examination of stool and rectal biopsy. Sixty two cases had acute amoebic dysentery 8 chronic amoebic dysentery, 16 bacillary dysentery, 18 non-specific diarrhoeal colitis, 5 ulcerative colitis and 7 other diarrhoeal disorders. Careful stool examination and sigmoidoscopy proved more helpful in the diagnosis than rectal biopsy.
