Abstract:
Vesicular arbuscular mycorrhizal infections were observed in Salvinia cucullata Roxb, and Azolla pinnata R.Br. growing in aquatic or muddy places. Vesicles and spore infections were observed in root like leaves of Salvinia growing in purely aquatic environment. Vesicular infections were common in leaves of Azolla growing in waterwhile more infections were observed in leaves and also roots when growing in wet soil. Intact endogonaceous spores also occured in leaves of Azolla. Infections were heavier in senescing leaves. Several species of Glomus and Acaulospora sp. were found responsible for causing infections in the aquatic environment.
