Abstract:
Taro corms contain valuable bioactive molecules effective against cancer and cancer related risk factors such as carcinogen and biological several pathophysiology conditions including oxidative street and inflammation while controlling metabolic dysfunction and enhancing the immunological response. Such broad effects are achieve by Taro's health affecting compound which exhibit antitumor ,anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antihyperlipidemia activities. Taro's biological activities are attributed to combination of tarin, taro -4-I polysaccharide, taro polysaccharide 1and 2 (TPS-1 and TPS-2) and monogalactosyl diacylglycerols (MGDG) Digalactosyldiacylglycerols (DGDGs) Polyphenols and non polyphenols antioxidants. Most of those compound have been purified and successfully infected in vitro and in vivo demonstrating their involvement in the above activities. Although these health benefits have been recognized since ancient times as well as other valuable properties of Taro for food profit such as hypoallergenicity, gluten free properties and carbohydrates with a moderate glycemic index the taro crop remain underutilized. The popularization of Taro intake should be considered as a dietary intervention strategy to improve the overall health of the organism and as a supportive therapy to manage tumorigenesis
