Abstract:
Submarines and surface ships radiated noise is made up of pure frequencies (lines) and broadband noise. Passive sonars use different processing to detect pure frequencies and broadband noise. Acoustic range measurement gives clear information for broadband radiated noise which is used to calculate the ship vulnerability for given passive sonars. For pure frequencies, it`s difficult to estimate the Source Level for three reasons: the signal to noise ratio is low, the lines instantaneous level is unstable, the Doppler effect changes the line frequency. The paper deals with a new method to estimate acoustic lines radiated noise. First, we present the mobile range developed by DCN to perform radiated noise measurement. Then we analyse different lines measurement. Finally, we describe the method, based on Wigner-Ville transform, to estimate lines Source Levels.
