Abstract:
Seeds of two tomato cultivars 'Best of All' and 'Roma' were given pre-germination soaking treatment with three choline chloride concentrations (0.0, 1,0, 2.0 mM) to improve their germination. They were then sown in petri dishes containing Hoagland and Arnon's culture medium in presence of all possible combinations of five concentrations of sodium chloride (0.0, 5.0, 10.0, 25.0, 50.0 meq/1) and the three concentrations of choline chloride. Three days after sowing were considered as the standard germination period and daily germination counts were taken after this period for nine days. It was concluded that the seeds presoaked in choline chloride, germinated better. The germination counts were better in the cultivar 'Best of All' than in 'Roma' in all treatments.
