Abstract:
The present research work was done to enlighten the indigenous knowledge of some wild plants being used for medicinal purpose in district Bahawalpur Pakistan. Area lies between 27° 42" to 29° 45" latitude and 69° 52" to 75° 24" longitude in North-East of Pakistan. The altitude of each sampling site, latitude, longitude, aspect and some of other ecological and edaphic factors were analyzed. The local conventional uses were collected through a survey and personal interviews during field trips were taken. About 150 informers have been interviewed haphazardly to certificate local names and Ethno-medicinal uses of different plant species. The mean annual rainfall varies from less than 100mm in west to 200mm in east. During field survey 45 species belonging to 27 families were recorded. The major families were Poaceae and Fabaceae and they were contributing 4 species each. Mimosaceae and Solanaceae have three species while Amaranthceae and Chenopodiaceae, Euphoriaceae, Oleaceae, Rhamnaceae, Salvadoraceae were having two species. Some other families having only one species were also found in study area. A total of four different elevation were selected for the collection of plants that were dominantly used as medicinal purposes. These sites were Lal Suhanara national park, Black buck Enclosure, Pond area, Lion safari park and campus Islamia university Bahawalpur.The dominant species were Chenopodium album, Chenopodiastrum murale, Delbargiasisso, Fern adiantum, Jasmine officinale, Leptadenia pyrotechnica, Melia azedarach, Olea europeae, Phyla nodiflora, Ricinus communis, Typha latifolia from each sampling site respectively. They were used to cure more than 50 different diseases like Blood purifier, kidney failure, allergy, intestinal worms, Diabetes, Abdominal pain, Constipation, Aphrodisiac, Abortifacient, Stomach troubles, Skin diseases, Wounds, Vomiting, Dyspepsia, Ulcer, Gall stones, Constipation, Lice control, Gall bladder, Anorexia, Antiplaque, Bronchial catarrh, Anemia, Dysuria. Some taxonomic attributed like flower color, flowering period, life form were also observed.
