Yield and yield components of rice varieties as affected by transplanting dates.

Abstract
Effect of different transplanting dates was studied on six rice varieties/lines at Agronomic Research Institute, AARI, Faisalabad during 2002-2003. Rice varieties/lines (98801, PK-5261-1-2-1, 97502, 98409, Basmati-385 and Super Basmati) were transplanted from July, 1 to 31 with 10 days interval. Different yield and yield parameters like number of tillers, grains per spike, plant height, 1000- grain weight and sterility were significantly affected. Super Basmati produced average maximum paddy yield (5121 kg/ha) while 98409 gave minimum (3536 kg/ha) irrespective of transplanting dates. Basmati-385 and Super Basmati produced maximum paddy yield (5655 and 5612 kg/ha) when transplanted on July, 11 and 1, respectively. Minimum sterility was recorded in rice varieties 98901 (5.25%) and Super Basmati (5.08%) and maximum in PK 5261-1-2-1 (13.08%). Minimum sterility was observed in rice transplanted on 21st July followed by July 1, 11 and 31.
